Last phase Lounge 1 Schiphol in motion

Now that the redevelopment of Departures 1 is complete, Schiphol Airport is updating Lounge 1, the waiting area after the security check for passengers travelling to Schengen destinations. Benthem Crouwel Architects has been working on the redevelopment of Terminal 1 since 2016 in phases, and we are now reaching the last phase.

Lounge 1 will undergo a transformation starting in 2023. The new design will help passengers find their way with even more ease, through the layout, lighting, colours and materials of the redefined areas. The surface area of 24.000 m2 will gain an additional 5.000 m2 allowing Lounge 1 to be more spacious and have an increased number of food and drink establishments and shops. There is also a focus on sustainability and circularity. In an effort to help Schiphol with its ambition to become a zero-waste airport, more than 90% of the materials will be recycled and sustainable.
