The construction of our project on Keizersgracht 572 is full on!

The front house of this monumental building on the Keizersgracht canal dates from the late 17th century. In 1963 an annexe was built, connected to the front house by a middle section that contains an elevator shaft and staircase. Benthem Crouwel Architects is now renovating and upgrading this annexe, creating a modern and flexible office space that fully meets todays work space requirements. By removing one of the staircases in the annexe, opening up the middle section and replacing one of the annexes facades with a transparent, light curtain wall, the visual connection between the two parts of the building is strengthened. More light can flood the front house, and the annexe becomes an open plan office space with optimal flexibility. The use of contemporary and innovative materials that are uncommon in historical canal houses, like black aluminum window frames, creates an interesting contrast between old and new.
