With its many known organizations, the Swiss city of Geneva plays a global role. The influx of visitors is partly accommodated by Geneva Airport. However, its current terminal building no longer offers the flexibility or adaptability needed for future development. With rising passenger numbers putting further pressure on capacity, Benthem Crouwel Architects and NACO developed a Terminal Ambition Plan to guide the airport’s renewal and growth until 2040.

Physical constraints limits straightforward expansion of the terminal. As operational limitations become more pressing, several “quick wins” were identified to strengthen the existing terminal. These included removing crossflows, expanding the check-in area, relocating and enlarging security, and introducing intuitive wayfinding to maximize current capacity.

A phased development roadmap was created to outline feasible milestones. The design improves passenger flow through a two-step check-in concept and accommodates future security requirements to enhance the overall travel experience.

A key aim of the Ambition Plan is to strengthen intermodal connectivity, to develop the airport into a true mobility hub. With major organizations and ski resorts within 15 minutes of the airport, convenient transport links are essential. The design introduces a new intermodal hub that seamlessly integrates air, rail, and public transport, ensuring an efficient and comfortable passenger journey.
